Obsessive Compulsive Disorder Treatment

What Is OCD?

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is one of the main anxiety disorders and can be difficult to overcome on your own. Obsessive-compulsive disorder is a mental health disorder that affects people of all ages and walks of life. Obsessions are unwanted intrusive thoughts, images, or urges that trigger intensely distressing feelings. Compulsions are behaviors an individual engages in to attempt to get rid of the obsessions and/or decrease his or her distress. OCD can present itself through intrusive thoughts, ruminations, hoarding, symmetry obsessions, contamination obsessions and more. We specialize in helping clients regain control over their lives by conquering their OCD.

How We Treat OCD

Among the available ways to help individuals with OCD, our team utilizes CBT, ACT, Exposure Response Prevention training (ERP), and Mindful Meditation. Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is the most effective way to reduce symptoms and improve quality of life. In essence, the core ways CBT is used to help individuals with OCD is by helping them to identify and examine thinking styles about obsessions and compulsions that can lead to increased anxiety and worsening symptoms. Additionally, a fundamental part of CBT for OCD involves directly facing situations and triggers that are likely to cause symptoms, staying with them until anxiety has decreased, and refraining from engaging in compulsive rituals.

We offer both outpatient and intensive outpatient OCD programs. When general outpatient services are not enough, the next step of care is an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP). Intensive outpatient programs meet anywhere between 9-15 hours per week depending on client needs and are for clients who either experience significant impacts on functioning due to psychological symptoms, or clients who would benefit from a specific area of focus in their mental health care. Our IOP programs are specific to OCD and Anxiety. Intensive outpatient programs usually incorporate a combination of group, individual and family therapy, ERP training, and parenting programs as needed. During your intake appointment, our clinicians will determine which program best fits your needs.
