On this journey we call life, we are constantly taking in information. From everything happening to and around us, we make meaning and create attachments. The person we are and the life we are living is a result of these attachments.

It’s not what happens to us or around us that creates who we are or the life we live. It’s the meaning and attachment we make to those experiences.  Our outside circumstances are not what make us happy, successful, or content.

This is HUGE mindset shift. We can’t control all that happens to us and around us. But we can control our meaning and attachments.

And, every day is a new opportunity to change those attachments that are hurting us.

How do we do it?

One extremely effective way is awareness.  At the moment you feel emotional pain, pause, and get super curious about what is going on at that moment. What are you thinking? What is going on around you? Who is involved?

Don’t become judgmental to anything you’re finding in your increased awareness. Just notice it and become interested in it.

And instead of asking questions such as “Why is this happening to me?”, try asking “What do I need to learn from this?” with love and compassion for yourself; without any form of blame or shame.

Be patient. Be ultra curious. Be non-judgmental. You will start to see things in a different light. You will begin to see it’s not what’s happening around you that creates your experience, but rather your attitude, your thoughts, your beliefs.

This is the path to remain on that will take you from being the victim of your life to that of the victor.
